Hon. Minister’s Message
Efficient transport is a critical component of economic development, globally and nationally. Transport has affected economic development from the beginning of human civilization. Economic development focuses on the confluence of transport systems. Transportation investments link factors of production together in a web of relationships between producers and consumers. When transport systems are efficient, they provide economic and social opportunities and benefits that result in positive multipliers effects such as mobility and better accessibility to markets, employment and additional investments. When transport systems are deficient in terms of capacity or reliability, they can have an economic cost such as reduced or missed opportunities and lower quality of life.
Therefore National Transport Commission has an obligation towards the people of Sri Lanka to ensure that the transport systems are developed, maintained, controlled and regulated effectively to provide the best infrastructure and services required to support sustainable development. This website I am sure would provide the necessary support in this regard, in terms of getting connected locally and globally and access the required information and guidance to improve the standards of our transport systems. I wish the National Transport Commission success in their future endeavours launched through this website.
Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera
